Fairtrade guarantees a better deal for growers and producers in developing countries & Scotmid believes in giving you quality products that you can trust - for the right reasons.
As a consumer owned organisation, Scotmid is uniquely
placed to campaign on behalf of our members and the wider
community. Consequently, we are committed to providing full, honest
and open information so that you can make informed choices about
the products you choose when shopping.
Scotmid believes in social responsibility and self help, so we
want a better deal for growers and producers in developing
countries. This is why we stock Fairtrade products in all our food
stores. We are committed to Fairtrade which guarantees a better
deal for producers.
The Society has been a champion of Fairtrade for many years and
we support Fairtrade events throughout Scotland in schools and many
other organisations.
Fairtrade events we supported in 2011 include;
- Edinburgh FT group's key event and Lord Provost awards
ceremony
- Edinburgh FT group's schools showcase event at Stenhouse
Primary
- Scottish Universities & Colleges Fair Trade Conference at
Queen Margaret University
- Montrose FT group's wine tasting event
- Brechin FT group's celebration event on receiving their
fair trade city status
- Highland Council
- Strathaven FT Group's poetry competition in the local
schools
- Over 40 schools have received the resource pack from us to help
them gain their fair trade school status
- Many schools have visited our stores to research the types of
fair trade products available to buy
Scotmid is delighted to be the main sponsor of the Edinburgh
Fairtrade Directory and we have also just announced we will be
sponsoring the Edinburgh Fairtrade breakfasts for the next three
years.
